How to get a multi-line caption onto TikTok

A TikTok caption is written in one place and read in another: you type it into a small field and viewers read it over a playing video, with the interface covering part of it. Build it here, then move it across whole.

What the tool inserts for a caption over video

• Trailing spaces are stripped from every line, which matters here because captions typed on a phone collect them.
• Pasting the output back in and running it again gives the same caption, since previous separators are cleared first.

Where TikTok captions lose their shape

The caption is displayed over the video in the bottom corner with the interface on top of it, so a correctly spaced caption can still be effectively invisible: the player shows a line or so and the rest waits behind a tap.

• A viewer who never taps the caption open sees the first line and nothing else, so the break that matters most is the one after the opening sentence.
• A caption arriving as one block is worse here than anywhere else, because the visible slice is tiny and a block spends it on a fragment.
• Text pasted from a notes app can carry its own breaks mid-sentence, which look deliberate in the player and read as mistakes.
• If you reopen the caption to edit it, paste the whole thing again rather than patching a line, or the spacing goes with the edit.

Whether a TikTok caption needs paragraphs

TikTok is the platform where the honest answer is usually no. The caption competes with the video for attention and loses, and paragraphs in it exist for the small number of people who tap to read the whole thing.

• A caption that is one sentence and a hashtag block gains nothing from spacing.
• A caption carrying a recipe, a list or a set of steps is exactly what this tool is for, and the difference is readable against unreadable.
