How to space a post worth spacing

Get the post inside the ceiling first and space it second. Spacing a post you then have to cut means doing the same edit twice, and at this length the cut usually removes a paragraph break anyway.

1. 1Write the post and check it fits before you think about its shape.
2. 2Paste it above with the paragraphs separated however you like, since blank lines are optional in the input.
3. 3Stay on single spacing unless the post is a genuine list. The second separator line buys very little at this length.
4. 4Read the total against 500 characters before you copy, because a post that was just inside the ceiling may not be once the spacing goes in.
5. 5Copy the output and paste it into the composer in one action.
6. 6Building a chain, do each post separately: the spacing is per post, and so is the budget it comes out of.

What the tool adds inside a tight ceiling

Threads keeps most of what you type, so the tool is less a rescue here and more a way to make the same text behave identically everywhere else you paste it.

• The separator is U+2800, the braille pattern blank, with a non-breaking space available if a client shows the braille blank as a box.
• Single spacing adds one separator line per gap and double adds two, which is the only difference between the two settings.
• A four paragraph post spaced once uses three separators, leaving the rest of the ceiling for words.
• The output is plain text, so the same post pasted into Instagram or Facebook keeps exactly the same shape.
• Re-running the tool on its own output does not compound the spacing, because earlier separators are removed first.
• Every post in a chain has its own ceiling, so separators in one post take nothing from the next.

How spacing disappears between apps

Threads text travels. It gets quoted, reposted, copied into other apps and pasted somewhere else entirely, and the spacing you added is the part most likely to be changed along the way.

• A post copied out of a rendered feed comes back without its blank lines, because those paragraphs were layout rather than characters.
• Pasting a spaced post into a counter includes the separators in its total, which is correct and still surprising if you were expecting the number you started with.
• Posts written on a phone keyboard collect trailing spaces at the ends of lines. They are stripped here so they cannot break the spacing later.
• An edit made in the composer after pasting can merge two paragraphs, and at this length one merged paragraph is most of the post.

Whether to space a Threads post at all

A five hundred character post is usually one idea, and one idea rarely needs paragraphs. The tool earns its place on the posts that carry a list or a before and after, and is overkill on the rest.

• A single paragraph post needs no separators at all.
• Three short lines is the case where spacing genuinely changes how fast the post reads.
• The cheapest way to make a Threads post readable is a shorter post rather than a better spaced one.
• If you find yourself needing four paragraphs, write a chain and give each idea a post of its own.
