TikTok engagement rate calculator

Calculate your TikTok engagement rate from likes, comments, shares and saves, benchmarked against a real TikTok range and not a generic social average.

Engagement rate

0.00%

by followers

How this is worked out

0 interactions ÷ 10,000 followers × 100 = 0.00%

Below the typical range

Typical for this platform is 4% to 6%. TikTok runs far higher than the other platforms because the feed serves videos well beyond your follower base.

Your own trend over time is a better signal than any published average. Track the same formula month over month rather than switching between them.

How to calculate your TikTok engagement rate

TikTok puts a view count on every video, which makes it the one platform here where the fairer denominator is sitting in plain sight next to the interactions.

  1. Open your profile, tap the menu, then Creator tools and Analytics.
  2. Go to the Content tab and open the video you want to measure.
  3. Read the likes, comments, shares and favourites for that video, then note total video views.
  4. Enter your follower count, prefilled here at 10,000, with the four interaction figures.
  5. Run it twice, once against followers and once against that video view count. On TikTok the two results rarely resemble each other.
  6. Average at least ten videos and set aside anything that clearly broke out, or the breakout becomes your headline number.

The exact sum this calculator runs

The numerator is likes, comments, shares and favourites added together. The denominator is your choice, and on TikTok that choice moves the answer further than it does anywhere else, because the feed decides your distribution rather than your follower list.

  • By followers: likes, comments, shares and saves added together, divided by followers, times 100. On the 10,000 followers this page starts from, the 4% to 6% band works out at 400 to 600 interactions on a post.
  • By views the rate is usually far lower than by followers, because a video shown to a million people carries a million in the denominator while your follower count has barely moved.
  • A follower-based rate above 100% is arithmetically possible here and fairly common on a video that broke out. That is not a record, it is a sign the denominator is wrong for that post.
  • Averaged across posts: the same sum run per post and then averaged, which is the only version that describes an account rather than a single upload.
  • TikTok does not define an engagement rate either. Its analytics screen hands you raw counts and leaves the division to you, so any benchmark you read was produced by somebody who picked a denominator and usually did not say which.

The comparison that makes the number meaningless

The TikTok trap is the single breakout video. Post nine that do nothing and one that reaches two million people, and a follower-based average across the ten tells you nothing about what will happen tomorrow. The second trap is quoting a TikTok figure to somebody who benchmarks on Instagram. The same effort produces a much bigger number here, and a brand that does not adjust for the platform reads it as either a triumph or an invention.

What the rate will not tell you

Interactions are cheap on TikTok: a like costs a double tap while the video plays itself. Shares and favourites are the ones that show somebody chose to act, and watch-through is the signal the ranking actually runs on. This calculator cannot see watch time, so a strong rate sitting next to a weak average watch time is telling you something the percentage never will.

  • Record the view count beside the rate for every video, otherwise the number cannot be reproduced later.
  • Compare your videos with each other and never with an Instagram benchmark.
  • Watch shares and favourites as their own series. They move before your follower count does.
The rest of the job

You just fixed one post. Now do the month.

The tiktok engagement rate calculator solves one piece of one post. OctoSpark plans, writes and schedules the whole calendar across every network you use, publishes it for you, and reports what actually performed.

  • One calendar for every network
  • Schedule once, publish everywhere
  • Drafts written in your own voice
  • See what actually performed

Frequently asked questions

How this tool works, what it cannot do, and what happens to what you put into it.

  • What is a good engagement rate on TikTok?

TikTok runs far higher than the other platforms because the feed serves videos well beyond your follower base. This calculator marks anything below 4% as quiet, 4% to 6% as typical, and above 6% as strong, but your own trend over time matters more than any published average.
  • Which formula should I use: followers, reach, or a post average?

By followers is what brands and media kits quote, so use it when you are pricing yourself. By reach is what the platform’s own analytics shows and is the fairer measure of whether a post landed. A post average across your recent posts is the one to use for a profile-level number, because a single viral post distorts everything.
  • Why does my number differ from another calculator?

Because they picked a different formula, a different denominator, or counted different interactions. A tool that divides by reach will always show a bigger number than one dividing by followers. This calculator shows the exact division it performed so you can see which one you are quoting.
  • Should saves and shares count as engagement?

Yes, and they arguably matter most: a save or share is a stronger signal than a like, and most platforms weight them heavily in ranking. They are optional inputs here so you can reproduce whichever definition someone else used.
  • Is my data private?

Yes. This tool does its work in your browser, so whatever you type, paste or upload stays on your device. Nothing is sent to our servers, which is also why it keeps working if you go offline after the page has loaded.
  • Is this really free?

Yes. Every tool here is free with no account, no credit card and no usage cap. They exist so that the people who need our scheduling product find us, which only works if the tools are genuinely useful on their own.
  • Do I need an account?

No. Open the page and use it. An account is only for OctoSpark itself, where you plan, schedule and publish a whole calendar rather than fixing one post at a time.
  • Can I use the output commercially?

Yes. Anything you produce here is yours, including for client and commercial work. We claim no rights over it and we do not watermark it.
